Infrastructure company rewarded for empowering staff to be safety leaders

Congratulations to Comdain Infrastructure for running a successful National Safe Work Month initiative and winning the Workplace Reward for 2017.

Safe Work Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Michelle Baxter congratulated the infrastructure business, which specialises in the gas and water sectors, for its ‘Safety Leaders’ initiative.

“Comdain’s leadership campaign was inclusive, engaged all levels of staff, empowered them to make good safety choices, and maximized knowledge retention across the organisation,” said Ms Baxter.

“Comdain is to be particularly commended on their education program designed specifically to address WHS concerns within their business.”

In an effort to raise awareness and improve safety outcomes, Comdain initiated an education program with the tagline ‘Take the lead. Everyone. Every day.’ Activities across all sites focused on change management and a new high-risk activity each week.

The safety initiative was so well received by the organisation’s 450 staff that the education program will now continue on a monthly basis.

“Comdain’s safety initiative demonstrates a strong long-term commitment to WHS and places a particular emphasis on the safety of their workers,” said Ms Baxter.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition from Safe Work Australia. The key to our success was simple messaging delivered by our people with passion and genuine care,” said Jim Gaha, Chief Operating Officer, Comdain Infrastructure. 

“Everyone got involved and the outcomes were beyond our expectations.”

Ms Baxter also congratulates Coca-Cola Amatil and Taronga Conservation Society Australia as joint runners up, and highly commends Americold Logistics Ltd and the University of Western Australia’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences for their high-quality entry this year.
