Landowners at the heart of the LNG project at Hides in the Papua New Guinea’s Hela province are following through with threats to shut it down after seeing no movement in the millions of dollars in outstanding royalties being paid.

Where major resource projects are already up and running, substantial and long-awaited royalties are already owed to landowners, and billions more will be due as early as this year.

Provincial police commander Michael Welly says the protesters are peaceful, waiting for the Government to front up.
